IBM Lotus making big push to the cloud

At the end of last week, IBM announced that they’d signed 200 channel partners to resell Lotus Live.  Lotus Live offers a mix-and-match of features from their full Lotus line of software which include: email, IM, online meetings, document management, and project tracking.

Some of their premiere partners announced include:  Silanis, Skype,  PGi, Intercall, Ascendant, Insight, and Integrasys.

Lotus Live is still marketing to medium to large size businesses starting at 1000 seats or higher.

Here’s how IBM is describing their strategy.

IBM Lotus is promoting its products under a hybrid model with customers adopting Lotus Foundations and Lotus applications for on-premise use and LotusLive for businesses that need to collaborate with suppliers, partners and customers outside the firewall.

What do you think? Will this partnering strategy result in significant Cloud deployments for IBM?
